Transition Into Respite Care
We recognise that transitioning into respite can be a significant step for both the individual and their carer.
To support a smooth and reassuring experience, we offer a gradual introduction that includes:
1. Initial Visit: – A chance to visit the home and ask questions in a relaxed setting.
2. Planning Meeting: – We work with you to understand the individual’s needs, preferences, routines, and goals to create a personalised support plan.
3. Trial Stay: – A short stay helps the individual become familiar with the environment and staff, allowing us to adjust support if needed.
4. Feedback and Adjustments: – We listen to your experience and make changes where necessary to ensure comfort, safety, and continuity of support.
5. Full Respite Stay: – Once everyone feels ready, the full respite support begins, with regular check-ins and communication throughout.
Our approach is trauma-informed, flexible, and focused on building trust at every step.
Moving In
Belongings
Bring items that help you feel at home, such as clothes, toiletries, comfort items or anything familiar.
Food and Cooking
Clients have access to a communal kitchen to prepare their own meals. Support is available to budget for food, create shopping lists, complete shopping, and cook preferred meals.
Personal Funds
Please bring enough personal money to cover your own spending during your stay. We can offer advice on managing these funds if needed.
Medication
If you require support with medication, please bring all medicines in their original packaging. We will help store and manage them safely.
Communication and Preferences
Let us know what helps you feel settled. This could include your daily routines, communication style, sensory needs, or anything important to your wellbeing.
Staying Connected
You can keep in touch with carers, family or friends during your stay. Visits can be arranged if required.
Confidentiality
Your information is treated with care and respect. We involve you in decisions and always seek your consent. See our Privacy Notice above.
